Is that not mainly sugar based? In which case would something like Rum do the job?

Ahhhhh the Caipirinha, now that brings back memories. The last time I consumed a few of those, I went home and (apparently) spend 10 minutes talking to a suitcase before passing out on the stairs.
I think it tasted nice though...

I have a bottle of cachaca in my fridge. It's sugar cane liqueur. Waitrose stock it. Alternatively use vodka for a caipiroska.
I LOVE caipirinhas and have been very, very delightfully p1ssed on them on more than one occasion, the most memorable of which found me incapable of walking the 200 yards back to my hotel from the bar in which I'd drunk 5 of them (had to get a taxi, to the great amusement of the taxi driver)!

Take a lime, cut it into about 6 bits and put into a tall glass. Mush up lime with a stick (the stick has a name but I've forgotten it) untill the lime is juced.
Add about a spoon full of sugar, some ice and then fill the glass to the top with the sugar spirit.
They taste good with vodka too. (caipiroska)
I eneded up engaged after a night out in Brazil on these. We went to the same bar the next night, there was about 7 shots in each glass!

Used to make these in a bar job I had and I hated doing them as they take ages.
Take two limes and quarter them.
Put in tumbler and add two table spoons of brown sugar.
Mash them up with a spoon until you the limes have all been crushed (takes about 5 mins).
Add a layer of crushed ice.
Pour over two shots of Brazilian white rum.
Server with a short straw.
Word of warning never drink the white rum on its own as it'll take the skin off the roof of your mouth.

i thought cachaca was a type of white rum?
it's fermented sugar cane juice, rum is made from molasses IIRCfwiw i haven't had a decent caipirinha since sharing a flat with my friend and his brazilian wife. he had an entire cupboard full of cachaca!
