Just been under the car with the exhaust removed to get at the manifold bolts and noticed a “hole” with nothing in it. Have I lost a bit ? The pic is not that good so I will describe. This is taken from the front looking up above where the exhaust would normally run. The end of two bolts appear through the plate and in between them there is a blind hole which doesn’t appear threaded. I am looking just to the left of the copper pipe that is visible. What is the hole for ?

I expect it's for an alternative bellhousing configuration. The LT77 and T5 were both used on loads of different vehicles.

You'd get some interesting answers to a thread title like that in P&P...

Steve, my bellhousing is just like yours (but dirtier!). I think that what you've seen is a locating hole into which fits a small locating pin which is on the bellhousing. This is to help alignment when reassembling.
Andrew.

Yes I can accept that it is a locating pin, that makes sense. The mystery that you have added to the question now Andrew is that assuming your pic is also taken from the front you appear to have the bolt heads on the front surface, they are on the rear on mine. What you can see in my (blurred) pic is the bolt ends appearing through some threaded holes.

Anyway I am happy with the locating pin answer, as long as I haven’t lost a bit.
