Ok just had an idea from another thread of mine
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=57124&f=10&h=0

Basically it really f**ks me off when some arrogant or idiot numpty cuts across a well marked roundabout into your lane.

I was trained in my driving lessons to WIN (What is it, Interrogate, Navigate) and although I have sometimes got it wrong I can go round a large roundabout without causing a problem. If I got it wrong I will go off at the lane im marked for then, come back and try again!

Now I hate Scameras as much as the next man but I would support a camera that sits above a roundabout and detects when someone cuts across.

There is NO REASON to be doing it, its totally unsafe.

We have the technology to do it, so why dont we? Good drivers are happy because they can approach and correctly navigate a roundabout without fear of being "numptied", and numpties will get fined or warned and will hopefully stop doing it.

Probably 1000 bad reasons why this is a **** idea but I throw it to the lions....

One reason is ‘Milton Keynes’. By the time they had installed the camera’s on all our roundabouts (all 156 of them…!!! – not personally counted) they’re be no money left to do the rest of the UK…!!!

It's called the racing line!

However, I doubt that the grandad in your thread needed to use it at just 20mph!

That will be the end of 'knee down' antics for bikers then. Dont believe that this is currently deemed illegal, IIRC.

More Scameras.

Both the outside edges of my two front tyres are er....tired. Going round them to the right and exiting to the left. The rest has huge deep "as new "grooves.

It really is annoying.

Anyone need some 255/40 ZR 18's for track day use?

bad idea, because I cut roundabouts if no one else is on them if I'm travelling at speed.
It is just like the speeding argument, sometimes it is safe to do it and other times it is not, which the camera cannot interpret, but a real live policeman can!

Cutting across roundabout lanes is fine if you don't impede anyone.

That goes for any driving, just don't impede anyone in what you do.

If you had cameras to spot such activity, the cameras would not be able to distinguish between acceptable roundabout "straight-lining" and unacceptable - just as speed cameras can't differentiate between a bad driver doing 30 and a good driver doing 50. The traffic police used to be aable to distinguish between the two, but they are being phased out and control freaks are trying to automate our lives and it doesn't work.

Believe it or not. Not actually True..!!! I agree we do tend to get through more tyres than most other counties, but not always 'cause the NS Front is bald. Anyone who says that their NS Front is bald has under inflated tyres, incorrect tracking or worn suspension. I've had 3 sets of front's on my Audi in a little under 3 years and the front have worn perfectly even, over the whole surface of the tyre on all 3 sets. Honest...

However, in the case of Big Trev, it tends to be the NS Rear that takes most of the punishment...

Taxi driving results in the same problem - wear on n/s tyres. My fronts last about 14k miles, 10 - 12 weeks, and I usually swap them over at 7k. Last time though I fitted directional tyres and so now I'm going to have to go back to the tyre fitters to have them swapped from rim to rim. Won't make that mistake again!

Every car I have ever owned has worn the outside edge of the NS front tyre more quickly than the OS. Perhaps you aren't going around the roundabouts quick enough?
