Cheapest TV featured race series?

A fellow rally driver has decided to switch disciplines having been offered a potential sponsorship deal if he can find a low cost televised UK race series. Any ideas? And cost estimates? Thanks.

Elise Trophy? Covered on Motors TV and aimed at those new to racing. It's heavily subscribed but there are plenty of people you can ask on SELOC.

Dunlop Sportmaxx Cup.

Varying costs depending on what vehicle you run but somewhere between 7 and 40k.

The races are in the 'Dunlop Great and British series' which is televised on Motors TV , Sky Sports 2 and 3 and skysports extra.

MINI Challenge - better grids than the SportMaxx cup. Field isn't diluted by lots of different classes either.

Really can't ever see the SportMaxx cup doing that well if i'm honest. £40k for an Astra? May as well go buy a clio for £25k (or a used one for £20k ish) and put the other £15k towards running it.

What TV coverage does the mini challenge have?
I also dispute that ditterent models dilute the grid.

When a series has several different cars people always want to see their prefered car do well and in the case of the Sportmaxx cup it may well even be one they drive themselves. I always want to see the SEAT's doing well against the Renaults and Astras.

I never said different models, i said different classes! There are too many different classes in it and it makes it boring to watch, hence the field is diluted.

Obviously you have to have the biased approach because of the situation you are in.

Yeah never thought of that. Infact any of the series Race Rally UK cover on Motors TV will be cheap.

No I am not biased , The mini series is fine too and supported by Dunlop so your series gets my vote too. I only suggested the Sportmaxx cup because I knew a little about it.
I hope you don't think my support of the Sportmaxx came as a dismissal of the minis , I just answered your points.

the point about something like sportmax is the fact that the cameras are only going to follow the guys at the front and not a class battle halfway down the field. how many times do you honestly think they tv coverage director would say "sod who is winning outright, there is a great battle down at the back of the field for class D"?...erm, never.... so you either need to be at the front of the field of a multi calss championship (big money) or at the front of a single class championship with limited modifications. oh and you also need to be a good driver...

a sponsor who wants to seek tv coverage is a mug in my opinion and just wants the satisfaction of seeing his comapny name on tv, there is no proof that tv exposure will be directly related to sales or an increase in brand awareness, i dont care what figures anyone comes up with, there are too many other variables to determine why someone bought a something other than they saw an advert on the side of a car at a clubbie meeting at mallory park...

to answer the question though, i have seen a FF1600 race at anglesey on motors tv before, you can pick up an old van dieman for around £4000 and run it for a season (bar damages) for about £2000K all in.

Sport Maxx is cheaper to run in than the MINI Challenge, and damage has proven to be lower. Entries are £300 a round as opposed to £1000 a round. Tyres are £50 a corner, not £125 and last twice as long. You actually get some decent PR coverage from the Sportmaxx. TV is identical for both series. Sport Maxx is a growing class whereas the Challenge is now 7 years old in a 7 year old product...

Thanks for all the advice - I'll pass it on. The chap rallies a tarmac Astra (old shape) which I'm sure could be set up for the circuit fairly easily and so a series where he could compete in this would be ideal. Its LHD but I guess that wouldn't be an issue?

You may have a prob there TV wise.

The Sportmaxx cup requires current model shape cars or no older than five years unless already raced in the series.

With an old shaped Astra you would be lucky to find a Televised series unfortunately.

LHD wouldn't be an issue. I don't know if something like club saloons gets TV coverage anywhere.

The LMA EuroSaloons series is on TV at some time and an old shape Astra would be eligible, I'm sure. Have a look at their web site - just google for it.

AMG TV do the filming for several "budget" series featured on TV. Have a look at this for a schedule: http://www.amgtv.co.uk/TV%20Schedules.htm

It shows the sorts of series that get coveage at clubman level.
