Hi guys
It's time to fit the Kumho V70A with K60 ( medium comp. ) up front and K90 ( hard comp. ) on the rear. The question is , is it possible to go up from a 245/35ZR18 to a 265/35ZR18 up front on the standard factory rim. Has anyone tried and tested this. Does it fit in the wheel arch and what was the affect on the handling.
We cant get the Kumho,s in South Africa so I,m importing them , but want to make an informed decision.
Oh to live back in the UK again.....
Help would be much appreciated.
Regards
Andrew

Hello Andy, how are you. I have not tried said combo but have to say that if you do not increase the width of the rim to allow for the wider tyre it will almost definitely cause problems as it can do little else but make the tyre taller and thus interfere with the trusty old headlamp inner liner ( that just so happens to be wrong enough in standard form that it causes contact with the recommended 245 section tyre fitted in any case! ).
Yeh , great thanks , Wanted to do a test run today but its tipping down
Thats quite a problem on the GTR , scuffs badly. Makes sense though.
The new slimline so called remedy and the uprated springs are being air freighted as we speak . Can't wait
What do you think about medium up front and hard rear ???acknowlegment of extra stresses , wheelspin for tyre wear and wear rate front to back to get a better wear balance.

I think that makes sense as you have a 60/40 weight split, lots of torque ( I am assuming this to be the case as it is a BLICK car
) and the other thing to think about is they should last a little longer too
Also unless you are running rose jointed suspension and thicker wishbones you do not really want TOO much grip. I think you have chosen wisely and don't see that you could go far wrong as a result.
Will be running rose jointed suspension and thicker wishbones very soon.
I hear you loud and clear. Done deal, me thinks its safer to go med. comp all round the first time. Get a feel for the transformation in grip and suspension hey. Great to talk about thoughts in my head on this forum , the fog always seems to clear.
Well AMS dyno sheet says 580 ft/lb which is pie in the sky till I get it on a dyno, could be interesting. So should have big uns, especially as BLICK is TRICK .

Tell me, is it true that over in S/A you measure an engines output slightly differently to the rest of the world?500BHP American = 420BHP British = 369.3BWBP S/A?
Also, just out of curiosity, what made you go for an AS motor?

There is only one Guru out there and it most certainly is not me
I am no thunderthief P and in your absence I took it upon myself to answer Andy's question to the best of my knowledge based on what I have learned from your exploits.
Don't start getting all righteous on me Pleeze or I will start asking you some of the questions that I have given you the answers to in the past ( just to check that you were listening )

Oh fook, don't do that, you know I never listen to you!!!
I can only add that with the hard rears the wear was bad at the back. Mostly from track events where I would hazard a guess that the harder compound got upto temp slower, and through a combination of driving style and lesser (relatively speaking) grip than the front, I had buckets of apex to exit rear wheel spin.
I'm hoping that the new mediums (also recommended by the factory BTW) will have grip sooner and put the stress back on the understeering fronts.
I'd go medium allround.....s
te!! I have!!!

1)_500BHP American = 420BHP British = 369.3BWBP S/A?_
You got me there Wayne , first time I've heard there to be any difference , thought 500bhp was unanimous. So whats the diff. and what does BWBP stand for. Must be the sun over here.
2) _Also, just out of curiosity, what made you go for an AS motor?_
I ask myself that question very often lately , GTR is now 3 years old and I've only put 2500miles on it due to engine problems. I was about 2 years early for SA to recieve LS 7 's , which by the way is the route I would definatley go now , Jeffs Schwarts walks the talk for me . A TT LS7 is sounding very inviting in the near future.
Again EFI is the way to go over here as the nearest track is 6000ft above sea level , carbs are not for me.

Guru's are good , actually very good. Can't knock that one.
Hi ya Mr P , thanks for your advice , after weighing up all the miles of experience you both have , KISS comes to mind once again , keep it silly simple . Medium compound it is then.
Over here we call that school fees. Time in the seat and pounds out the pocket.
Thanks Boss.

The first reading is what the yanks would LIKE it to be, the second reading is what it ACTUALLY is.Oh yes, and BWBP stands for Brake Wilder Beast Power

Sorry old son but you walked right into that one

A/S = You have my commiserations

10 out of 10
You get shot for less than that over here.

Educate me , what beast lurks your side of the pond andwho built it????
How long should I sit with my thumb up my WILDEBEAST A
before I get sun stroke and get over it . Thought about putting a Kinsler EFI Monster on for 18 degree heads. 5500 pounds over here "OUCH". Makes the LS 7 a bit of a no brainer hey.
