I'm debating converting my standard head lights to the faired in type as seen on the last Chimaera, any one on here have such a car and can help me with a couple of questions.

I know the actual lights are bigger on these cars but are they any better (brighter) or do the plexi covers have any effect (a friend of mine has a couple of e-types and the S1 with covered lights are much worse then the S2 without covers)

How do you get to the adjusters to to adjust the lights

Cheers Mark

I was thinking of going down that route or going for the sp6 conversion but in the end i didn't but now have some nice looking headlights that work far better than the origanal units and no paint work is needed biggrin

I saw the pic but just wondered what the lights are from or who supplies them.

Maks are from a VW lupo i suppose as on 1 of the cars here in Germany. I much prefer the faired in types looks and am also interested in this conversion.

Cheers Jens

Personally I've never liked the faired-in lights. The Chimaera is a classic traditional British sports car, and fairing in the lights or doing the S6 conversion smacks of making it look like something it isn't.

Just my opinion though.

I know what you mean about the S6/12/R, they always looked a bit unfinished I thought, but the last type look okay I thought

Personally i love the faired in look on the Chim and am completely suprised no-one has ever filled this gap in the market for conversions. I don't dislike the aftermarket conversions, but you are essentially changing something from standard which looks aftermarket however good the execution. Conversely, the faired in alights look great and update the front subjectively and were original fit on later cars.

If anyone comes up with a kit with o/e beam strength, then count me in.

Mak - anymore info on those lights of yours, as they look really neat? What are they from (part no?) and did you fit them yourself?

Ian.

Be surprised no more, Sportmotive.com do this conversion.
They have a chim in now being done and believe they had another two orders even at the Griff Growl.

I love the look of the faired in lights and will be getting them done on mine with a respray after xmas I think. Just got to get this charger setup up and running and then take a few months to let my wallet recover first though. If anyone gets any photos, please post them up as I think I'll be on to Sportmotive soon to talk prices...

Yeah for sure, I'll be back up to Brum late September so will be at the next Bulls Head meet after that and maybe a run out if there are any planned?

Just got off the mail with Ian at sportmotive, they can supply pods painted in your colour for 200 +vat and 65 +vat for each of the mk3 covers. The headlights you need to fit inside pods are MK1 Golf... which means you can probably bye an aftermarket pair with clear glass to have inside the pods... smile

I briefly considered the faired in lights as mine is a 2001 car and I could pass it off as an original! but I love it just the way it is. I dont like the speed 6 conversions because the first cars to be converted were done in the process of repairing front ended cars and every time I see one now I cant help but associate it with a damaged/repaired vehicle.
Sorry to all those who have opted to have this done.
