The engine is now in.

I'v now sourced an oil filter that clears the steering rack (this is just a temporary bodge - until I get hold a remote unit).

Gone to fit the O/S exhaust manifold and in it runs straight into the path of the starter motor solenoid!

I was hoping to get it running today!

What starter motor do I need?

I would assume it would be a SD1, or a compact RR item (solenoid in different place?)

Thanks

James

Whichever starter you get they are ridiculously close ie the positive terminal to the manifold , have fitted a new one a few months back ( will look up number) , as the old one was knackered , hella make , small solenoid , you will have to belt the manifold gently ! I wrapped heat resistant silver wrap round the solenoid and also normal heat wrap round the manifold to reduce heat onto the starter .

I have spent all day trying to sort out the manifold / starter motor relationship.

Big issues with the o/s manifold fitting at all and this without the starter motor even fitted!

As my manifolds are not stainless steel (unlike the rest of the system) I found a few pin-holes in the o/s item (which I will weld up for now), so they will need changing anyway - cue big hammer.

It fits now! But the positive terminal is VERY close eek

It'll be o.k, I,m sure wink

I have done a Google search on RV8 starter motors and have come across one with the solenoid located on the bottom. I will upgrade to that even when this one 'cooks' or I change the manifolds.
