Anyone think a sticky review section for bikes and bits worth having here?

I've tried to ask Garlick to give me some news space for Bike tests etc, but they're not all that interested really frown

Stickies would just be a nightmare - and besides, we don't do it for cars do we?

Could try creating a cycling Wiki? Just have various headings for each section; brakes, cranksets, chains, trails etc etc

Edit: beaten to it biggrin

Why not use one of the myriad of other sites that review bike bits?

I think there certainly could be a "what xxx bike for a beginner" thread. That seems to be the most common question on here.

Or a sticky on 'How to use the search function'?

Old Misery mode off.

Any review of any component would quickly have a million replies from people who have had different experiences, and found that product to be "made of cheese", and recommend something twice the price as the minimum requirement for purchase.

Everyones requirement from a component or product is different, as is everyones budget and everyones perception of what is required from a product. There is no datum, nor can there be. Bike radar (or similar) will be more impartial, however this is just another OPINION.

There will always be an element of people that like to big up the money that they have spent on a part that was a "must-have because of the extreme riding that I do" - roughly translated as "It was more expensive and shinier than my mates, and it gives the impression to the people in the car park / coffee shop that I must be a right nutter mentalist rider".

Anyone posting a "What part / product" should be very specific about their budget and the type of riding they will do, and take every recommendation and write up as OPINION and not FACT.
