Where to locate a fire extinguisher?

After reading a number or fire related threads this weekend, I decided to buy a small 0.8k fire extinguisher. I appreciate it wont deal with anything substantial, but it may help if something small starts. So, has anyone installed one before? If so where? Passenger footwell? On the rear shelf area? In the boot? Although if in the boot - it would not be so quick to access. Cheers.

I slot one next to the passenger seat up against the tunnel.

The best place I've found is sideways under the driver's knees. So you can reach it while seated (could come in handy if you find yourself trapped) and also reach it from outside the car if necessary.

Thx for that ... I was thinking the passenger tunnel wall as well... I am 6ft + and legs would prob be an issue on drivers side. Is it as simple as using the mounting bracket provided and unsing two self tapping screws straight into the tunnel or are there areas to avoid... ie I dont want to drill through something and start a fire!

I binned the bracket,i wouldn't screw through the tunnel at all,just slide it in.

Does that 1) not make moving the passenger seat around a pain and 2) make it liable to move around or fall out of place? Sounds a simple solution though...

Me too.
Just sits in the space between the seat, back bulkhead and the tunnel.
Only problem is, that was where I used to put my coke bottle !!

Another option is to fit one of these under the bonnet.

Mate of mine has one fitted to his Stylus kit car, just cable tied around the engine bay.
And after having a battery fire in my previous Tuscan when I was nowhere near the car, a 'Pyroflex' is on my shopping list.

He got his about 3 years ago for about £150. I think its sold by the meter plus a bit, made to order.

I never bothered when I had the Tuscan, figured if it was gonna go on fire it would be under the bonnet and
by the time I spotted the smoke pulled over got out opened the boot got out my small screwdriver to release
the two top bonnet catches went back to the boot got out my socket set selected a ratchet, extension and 13mm
socket undid the two bolts on the passenger side then the two on the driver side then ran to the nearest house
to get somebody to lift it off with me that it would be a burned out shell by then? Far better just to leg it
and phone the fire brigade IMHO.

1st post so hi everyone, I've had a Tuscan for a few months although currently waiting for the clutch to be fixed it's been a great few months!

Anyway I've got a thread going on the owners club forum about this but I'm having an FM200 gas based fire protection system fitted to mine. I've been talking with a company called Flameskill and I'm having it fiited at sebring in cambridgeshire in the next month or so. The guys from flameskill are going to be on hand to get the tubing length right then pressurise the system (Normall the kit would be ready to fit).

The cost of the system is £100 (on offer), but may be a little more dependent on tubing length. I'll be taking photos of the install and put a tuscan fitting guide online.

well it's £100 + fitting, but it should be straight forward enough to fit yourself.

Will be getting it done as soon as I have a new clutch fitted, missing the car at the mo

What extinguisher do you have? Any particular type necessary? Anywhere recommended to buy them from?

mine - med size 0.8 kilo - came from Halfords and sits currently behind the passenger seat , upright and wedged in..
