Hi all.

Looking at insurance quotes for an Elise S2 that I am due to collect tonight.

I currently have a 5yrs no claims bonus for my existing vehicle a new Land Rover Freelander.

When speaking to my current insurers today (Norwich Union) I was being told that this would not apply apply to my new vehicle the Elise, and that I would in effect be starting from scratch, and so I will have no NCB for that vehicle!

This shock is that this has changed all my online quotes from circa £400 /annum to £1000 /annum! gulp.

Does this sound right to you?

Yours dazed.

If you want to run two cars it gets a bit complicated.

Some insurers will allow you to share the NCB over two or more cars (direct line for example) others won't (sounds lke NU).

Presumably, if you want to stay with NU, you could switch the NCB to the Elise and run the F/l without the discount. IMO, you should do a bit of shopping around.

Thanks for that.

I spent all last night online, but I was inserting 5yrs NCB each time.

I'm wondering if I can justify 1k per year for the 3-4 thousand miles now.

Feeling a bit queezy as the guy is expecting a cheque tonight. frown

when the Land rover policy is due for renewal change to a new company that will allow you to run two cars with one no claims bonus , Elephant will do this and i found to be very good with quotes . Then you will have 5yrs no claims on both vehicles , plus if you tell your current insurer this is what you are going to do they may well change their minds as it is becoming more common now with mainstream companys .

You can also try A-Plan, they would be able to give you a discounted rate for your 2nd car even with no NCB.

If you are keeping the Landy, which i assume you are, then put the Elise on classic insurance, call Haggerty, they will be very cheap for you on a limited mileage policy.

You could always re-insure the Land Rover with a fresh policy with 0 yrs NCB and then change the car on the 5 NCB policy to the Elise? Might be worth getting quotes.

I have 3 policies running, all with separate NCB's - one at about 12 years, one at about 3 or 4 and the other at about 2. If you lose your NCB on one policy, I think it does effect your other policies too.

yeah, its a bummer and a really stty "quirk" of insurance, as generally each policy has its own NCB, so if you have 2 or 3 cars, you have to build them all up individually ...but then if you have one accident, it affects all 3 policies ! frown

there are a few providers offering multi-car policies, but I havnt found them very competitive in the past

Well thanks all.

Have just spoken to Hagerty, and Charlie there has provided a price of either £316 with a £350 excess @ 4,000 miles, or £287 same excess @ 3,000 miles.

Much better, and has breathed new life into this after all.

What a relief, thanks guys smile

Glad they came good for you. I called them and they were similar price, a friends has got it for about £210 with them. I have decided not to go with them but only as i want to build up my no claims bonus as i drive company cars all the time.
Good luck, and nice to hear you are feeling a bit better about it. Now get driving!

Nick J's rule!

Do you live in Bewdley, Worcs, and if so own an Elise S2?

If so I shall need to start looking over my shoulder!

Picking my S2 up tomorrow now biggrin
