As my other thread about the scamera van says, I've been offered (hey, doesn't it make you feel warm that they're offering) 3 bonus points and some wallet-lightening, now - when are you legally supposed to tell your insurance co?

1: Straight away
2: Straight after the points are applied and you get the licence back
3: When it comes to renewal time

Cheers...

In answer to your question - I dunno really, but.....
I told mine after I got licence back with points added.....my car insurance guys said that many people don't tell 'em untill their annual renewal. Trouble is (so I've been told) that if you have a prang & don't tell them, then they might not pay out.

I've got 3 points (SP50) - it would be interesting to know how this has (if atall) effected anyone elses premiums......I'm hoping that both car & bike will change little (at renewal) if atall. Both my insurers weren't sure when I rang 'em last week.

You are obliged to tell the insurer as soon as practically possible after the event. One SP30/50 should not affect your premium - most insurers allow up to two speeding/traffic signal offences before they load the premium; if they don't play ball, go elsewhere.

SP50 with Directline has increased the premium between 80 - 100 quid per year.

Interestingly enough, I've just taken out a policy with Elephant and in the notes it states that they don't want to know until renewal time.
