Me knobs gone stiff

Heater control thingy knob that is, the one that controls the direction of airflow. Fans a/c is working fine just can't direct other than straight ahead. Any ideas what causes this?.

get under the dash and have a look there is a cable that slides see if it is free

Exact same thing happened to me. However it sorted itself out and now is ok. Sorry not much help but does suggest a design issue
