I have an early 1980 mk1 Tasmin coupe with the fuses in a strip close to the radiator. Having removed and replaced the instruments to have the dashboard re-covered I now have the situation where the instruments work fine until the engine is reved and then the "No Charge" warning light comes on and all the instruments stop working because the fuse has blown. The fuse in question is at the very bottom of the strip and was either 5 amps or 8 amps. According to my handbook, which shows a totally different and I suspect later layout, the instrument fuse should be 15 amps.

I am reluctant to try a 15 amp fuse in case this is too high for the circuit and one of the instruments or part of the wiring fails. Can anyone confirm the fuse rating for me please?

Of course the car ran perfectly and all the guages worked with the 5 or 8 amp fuse before the removal and refitting of the dash so it could be something I have done. I would welcome any suggestions.

Thanks in anticipation.

Maybe completely off the wall here but has one of the leads come off the brake fluid cap?

I see where you're coming from but there are no wires attached to my brake fluid reservoir (by design I hasten to add!).

Black wire car ?

Anyway it is almost certainly something you have done.
I would pull the dash back off and look for any "floating wires" or possibly loose ones. Check the grounds, but I'm sure this will be a live one.
If it is a black wire car (what were they thinking) it's possible you misplaced a wire. Not too difficult I would imagine.

In later cars the instrument fuse was 3 amps. BTW
