Now I very well understand that there are many things that frustrate most of us about being British. However, I am getting a little *tense* with all the negativity on this site (to which I have been known to contribute) so it's about time we had a positive thread listing everything that makes you feel proud.

I'm sure this will generate plenty of sarcasm, but I got my Metro this morning and I have to admit a strange glow of pride seeing at least four pics on the front/back covers of athletes wrapped in Union Jacks/flags.

See if you can think of some good stuff. Go on - really try. thumbup

Cheese scones.
Fish and chips.
Resiliance. Two World Wars because we're the ones that said "oh no you bloody well don't!". Bombed by Hitler, bombed by the IRA, bombed by suicide bombers, and still standing!
A green and pleasant land. Yes I know the rest of europe has green areas too but ours are prettier!
Doctor Who.

I'll think of some more soon.

Oh yes.

Here's the scenario. There's 3 windows with ticket sellers at the train station. Are there 3 queues? No. There's 1 queue, and the person at the front just goes to the first window that's free.

It's the most efficient method, and no-one in the UK has to be told (a) how to do it and (b) to do it. We just do.

English beer. Oh OK, British beer.

Belgian beer is great - but so is ours.

TVRs
Classic MGs
Classic Triumphs
Rust (see the last two above)
Being an Island
Terry Pratchett
Alliteration in the English language
Fish'n'chips (has that been done?)
The New Forest
The Peak District

Christ, I could go on (did I mention beer?)

proper muffins that you toast, not them soggy pieces of st with chocolate chips or cherries etc in.

It is good having a flag that few people know which way up it goes and most get it wrong! (usually someone harping on about how fecking patriotic they are yet they don't even know which way up our damn flag goes!

The Union Flag at the top of this thread is the correct way up, by the way!

spelling words completely un-phonetically - just to make it hard for Johnny Foreigner!
having words like wound(a cut) and wound (as in wound up) spelt the same but pronounced differently! - genius!
