I'm organising part of a stag do next month in London. I wondered if anyone had any good tips for nightlife action as I'm not familiar with London at the weekend?

I'm thinking Friday night should be casual ish, few bars, maybe a bit of live music. Indie type music is our thing if anyone knows anywhere?

Saturday will be smarter, with a lap dancing bar (strictly for the groom you understand) such as Spearmint Rhino or FYEO and a club later. But where to go?

We're staying in the Covent Garden area so that'll be our base.

Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Cheers,
Dave

The Gaucho Grill ( there's lots all over London ) is an excellent place to eat loads of lovely steak to give you a good beer lining for later evening antics.

Lapdance places come in all sorts of flavours from £2500 a night type places mentioning no names to more reasonable places like Metropolis in the East End.

For daytime non p*ssed activities a walk around HMS Belfast is interesting.

Belgo's in covent garden make for a good starting place,

1 - close to your base
2 - good blotting paper food
3 - loads of beers
4 - lots of different schnapps, and they usually do 3 for the proce of 2 if you order the 2 meter stick.

Its not that classy, but hell, its kicking off a stag do biggrin

From there onwards, its all downhill.

Some good shouts there - I know Belgos and that's a good call.

There's actually only going to be 8 of us but take the point about getting in to places.

In terms of lap dancing, I was hoping to find somewhere less mainstream. Not looking for a knocking shop but thought we might come up with something more original than the mainstream brands (Spearmints, FYEO etc). Any suggestions?

Also, like the look of KOKO. Is it only live music or is there a club there as well? Anyone know what the club NME night is all about?

that'd be why I'm asking here rather than turning up on the door un-announced then

Yep. Anywhere in Camden really. Koko would be good, the other option is just to start at somewhere like the World's End and go from there. Neighbouring Kentish Town has quite a good music scene too.

Try googling the XFM website - they're a London-based indie station who are quite active with events and may have some good stuff.

+1 for koko. club nme is your typical indie night but with 2-3 bands performing during the night. sometimes good sometimes not.

trocadero can be an amusing diversion on a stag do. arcades, pool, bowling, dodgems etc.

also check out www.madamejojos.com .decent club that also does burlesque.

ps. don't bother dressing the groom up in a ridiculous outfit, you won't get in anywhere.

Mate, why on earth would you have a stag do in London?!

  • This little trip WILL cost a lot, London is stupidly expensive.
  • EVERYWHRE is busy, so be prepared to wait a long time at bars and queue for everything.
  • Be VERY careful if you go to Soho looking for 'strip' clubs. Many of the less desirable establishments will invite you in, then give you a glass of cola, then a bill for £180. I'm not kidding. If you refuse to pay you'll be carried to a cash machine by large 'cage fighter' types..
  • On a weekend there will be various street gangs roaming around, particularly Leicester Square. You will be robbed before you know what's happened, so be careful. Don't get into arguments with these scumbags, you will come off worse.
  • DO NOT chops-off or be sarcastic with the old bill! In town they will muller you, and you'll be on the floor in handcuffs, screaming, before you know it.
  • Don't get split up.
Hope you have a good time, report back!! wink
