Do any PHers have any experience of living or working in Mumbai?

I really don't know anything about the place or what to expect and may be offered a transfer there (IT role, banking).

Anything I need to know to help with the decision? I will probably not be able to go and have a look round for a month or so.

cheers,
Mark

Are you going to be paid in pound sterling? If so you will live like a king!

I strongly suggest you visit before making any life changing decisions. Its a VERY different world which some people will really not like. I did a two week stint in Pune (travelling via Mumbai) and I really enjoyed my trip and the people I met..... however I would not consider living there, even if I could have lived like a king.

Agreed. A lot of my colleagues visit Pune and Mumbai and many aren't that keen on going back if it can be avoided, especially the one who's just spent a week in hospital after eating at a fast food place.

I've worked in Hyderabad and Bangalore for 3 week stints - It's a truly amazing place to visit, but you really don't want to live there.
The traffic and hustle and bustle eventually wears you down. Plus the weather is either incredibly hot, incredibly hot and humid, or very very wet, hot and humid.
...Not to mention the cockroaches living everywhere and Mosquitoes biting you to death.

Seriously, I assume you're HSBC?

Loads of your peeps have been over there, can't you ask them?

I've been to Bangalore a few times with work and it's a very interesting place and a great place to visit.

Would I want to live there? No chance

If you haven't been to India before then you really really have to visit before you make any decision.

Not HSBC. It would be a step up role wise, hence I am considering it. Obviously I will visit first but trying to get some background info first. I won't be able to get out there for a month at least.

But even visiting for a week I don't think I'll get as much knowledge as the collective PH could provide!

And yes I would be paid in GBP.
