Hi Guys

Can any 993 RS owners out there help me please?

I have just completed fitting a 993 RS aerokit to my 993 coupe. The last part was the original Porsche fixed rear spoiler, which I had fitted by my local OPC body shop. It looks great, but I would like to know what colour the internal bit should be?

Let me clarify this question - The body shop painted the outer parts of the spoiler in Speed Yellow to match my car (obviously) The centre grill is black, OK so far. When you look in through the grill, the whole of the inner (liner) is black, down to the apperture in the engine cover. It looks very neat.

When I went to Eynsham Hall, I looked specifically for 993 RS models to check this detail. There was a nice Speed Yellow one, on the grass on the left of the drive(had H & S number plate surrounds) This one had a rear spoiler that was painted yellow inside. The RSR in the 40th Anniv. display had the bi-plane wing, this was black inside.

The 993 RS for sale with Gmund was Midnight Blue and it was difficult to tell which colour it was!

Could some kind soul with a genuine RS (especially Speed Yellow owners) take a look for me and let me know what the original scheme was?

My car goes back into the shop on Wednesday (for something else) and if I can, I want to get this subject addressed. I just want it to be correct!

Thanks in advance guys

David

Definitely black and unpainted on all body colours,
more flimsy & flexible part than on regular 993...
If you go to the 993 forum on www.rennlist.com
Look for recent posts by Roygarth,,,he has quite a few pictures of his speed yellow RS,clearly showing the black grill

I'd second Clubsport there - I just looked at my RS and it's black.

Thanks guys

Black seems to be the colour so far. I know that the grille should be black. But it was the bit below this (that lines the apperture and channels the air into the lid) that was painted yellow on the RS at Eynsham Hall.

Any more comments from RS owners, would be appreciated!

Mine is a gloss black car,,,but looking at the inner part the other side of the grill going down to the engine it is a semi matt black paint finish.Once the engine lid is lifted you can more easily see the contrast in black finishes on my car anyhow.

Thanks Clubsport, I think that I have the thing painted correctly, so my OPC body shop got it right(for once)

Melv.. I should do, but I bought my 993 C2 Coupe in Dec 2000. I lived with it for 2 years then went down that slippery slope of an RS clone. It was about 10K more for the LHD RS back then and I could not quite get there to realsise a good car for my money!!

Opted for a good low milage RHD 993 at the time...

The word Chicken springs to mind!

I am happy with the look now, but have started dabbling in the performance bit. Would like about 320 horses at the end of the day.

Should have spent the money on an RS to start with, but you know how it goes...

Yeah, but if you wanted 320bhp the 993RS would not have it anyway (from our experience) what with cam timing issues and the awful intake design. Besides, we can get 320 out of 3.6 non-varioram engines with a bit of clever jiggery-pokery if you need it.

As for the spoiler, satin black is correct for the engine bay side, gloss or bodycolour is not de rigeur.

Thanks Ninemeister, mine is a `95 non-Variocam model and I was under the impression that I would be looking at a 3.8 litre conversion, plus lots of further modifications on top, to get to 320 ish!

I think that I prefer the idea of a normally aspirated solution if possible. Are there any test cases or posting on any web sites that I can read, that squeeze somewhere near 320 BHP from the 3.6 engine?

Try this for starters, I know it is for the 964RS but the engine is basically the same. There are other ways of achieving the same, call me when you are ready and I can explain more of the details.
