Z3 3.0 or Z3M

I'm looking at buying either a 3.0 or M version of the Z3. I don't do many miles (6000aprox per year) but I don't want to spend a fortune filling it up or on servicing! Can anyone shed some light on fuel economy of both cars and which they would opt for?

I've had a 3.0 Z4 and a Z4 Alpina but never really thought about the Z3's before. What I'm looking for is a fun car, less money tied up as my mileage isn't really enough to spend a lot of time in the car so £22k in a car is a bit of a waste! Any other suggestions for decent 2 seater more than welcome!
