I can't answer directly, but I have a friend who was in the Navy as an aircraft engineer. When he left he started work with Monarch at Manchester as an aircraft engineer.

He works permanant nights so gets an extra allowance for that, guarenteed overtime, and currently takes home circa 35k i think. He's currently on a training course to make him a team leader or something, this will push his earnings over 40K.

He seems to enjoy the work, has busy nights and quiet nights, he doesn't mind doing permanent nights.

Think he had to provide all his own tools etc and go through some sort of security clearance to work airside.

Thats about all I can tell you but if you want i don't mind asking him a few questions if you like?
