Thinking of driving down to the southern part of the West coast of France in September, wondered if anybody can recommend a good town or campsite to stay at/near bearing in mind we have two children under 2.

Also any good places to divert through on the way down, had a quick look on the maps but couldn't really tell.

Cheers, Paul

Hi,

if you're looking for a calm place, 5 minutes walking from the ocean, I would recommend the Agreou camping & suites:

Really cool location, especially if you like surfing...

I found a nice site at Vieux-Boucau just above Bairritz that was next to the sand dunes and an endless beach. Good little town with lots going on, I would go back.

Our one and only family camping holiday was close to Perpignan, IIRC. Foot of the mountains. And, yes, it pissed down. Best avoided.

On your drive down do try to cross the Millau Bridge, it is very impressive. Can't say the same for many of the towns in that direction, sadly. Most just aren't set up for driving holiday tourists. Tours is nice. Amiens, too, though maybe a little out of your way.

Take the sea cat from Poole to StMalo and stop overnight its a very lovely town especially within the walled section. From memory there is a best western hotel inside the walls.
