Pay as you go phones, are they unlocked ?

Broken main phone, drinking phone and now last spare back up phone ( been a good couple of weeks ).

I was going to nip to tescos and grab a cheapy for the time being, are they unlocked so i can use my Vodaphone sim in it, if not where could I get a phone quick sharp for less than £30 ?

Generally they are locked to a specific network.

buy a Vodaphone Pay as you go, and your Vodaphone contract sim should work in it

Depends on where you buy them from.

If they're bought from the networks, locked.

If you buy from CPW, and its a generic SE/Nokia/etc, then there's a very, very good chance of it being unlocked.

There is a genuinely good looking Sony Ericsson phone in CPW at the moment called the T250. It doesn't do much but is metal and looks really quite nice for a cheapy. You can get it for £30

Not sure its the case on other networks but all the 02 prepay phones I have had have been unlocked!

daughter on pay as you go vodafone, I just bought her another on payg vodafone, chucked out the new sim card and put hers in and it's fine

Tesco Mobile phones are locked and you have to buy £30 of credit before they will unlock, also it can take them, quite literally, forever to get round to it!
