You signed a petition asking the Prime Minister to "Make Jeremy Clarkson
Prime Minister."

The Prime Minister's Office has responded to that petition and you can view

Could they not at least meet us halfway and get rid of Brown?

So, a flat refusal without any justification or clarification of the reasons ? Typical nu labia attitude.

^^^ My thoughts exactly, although as far as rejections go, at least they've put some effort into it.

Why did they ban comments on the video?

Are we being suppressed of free speech again?

A great opportunity wasted.

I was expecting to be entertained and was harbouring a new found respect for this government as I began to watch. Here comes the witty, scathing rebuke to such a ludicrous suggestion. How novel, how refreshing, oh have really just wasted 55 seconds of my life watching that?

What was even the point of making it a video? Pathetic.

Yeah, I'd love to see taxpayers' money spent on justifying or clarifying the fact that a man who isn't a Member of Parliament, or even of the governing party, can't become PM.

i'm outraged at this response. 50,000 people and they make a pathetic spoof vieo that answers none of the issues raised.

What a waste of our money by these s.

Fact is, more people have signed for JC to me Pm than signed for Gordon!!

The PM doesn't have to be a MP or a member of any party (and no MP has to belong to a party, btw). The PM is the Monarch's representative in the lower chamber and is appointed by the Monarch and requested to form a government.

Historically, the choice of PM has degenerated to the point where it is now the leader of the party which takes most constituencies (note careful choice of words - not the most popular or the one with most votes overall), but there is no reason why a properly managed ballot of the people could not be used as a strong argument for someone else to be appointed instead. Equally, should the monarch feel like it, he/she could (in theory at least) appoint anyone he/she wished as PM.

You do understand the difference between a petition and parliamentary democracy?

Probably quiet at No. 10 over the summer recess.

Still, was expecting a slightly more amusing punchline than "maybe not".

How dull. About what I expected from this farce of a government. Yet some of you found it funny? I watched and expected something funny to happen, and it never came. My sides remain un-split.

Whoopteedoo.. Why do some folks even waste their time with those ridiculous government petitions is beyond me. This weak video just shows even more that they can't be arsed to take several thousand people at all seriously. Even when the subject is actually quite serious. Its a waste of bloody time. Yet will you lot listen? No.. You'll probably go and vote the tts in again..

If Schwarzenneger can become Governor of California then there's still hope for JC as PM.
