ipod classic and warranty

daughters ipod has died so is being replaced under warranty

question
what warranty can i expect to have on the new one
i expect 12 months but most people reckon only the 2 months left
on the existing machine

surely a new machine should be the start of a new warranty????

like all goods its usually 12 months from date of purchase
