As title - any tips on creating a professional CV would be appreciated.

I got made redundant this morning after 15 years.

Sorry to hear about the redundancy, hopefully onwards & upwards.

Although this link is focussed on IT contractors, there is some excellent advice on there for CV's: http://www.ir35calc.co.uk/writing_killer_cv.aspx

Just sell yourself as much as you can. Dont lie on your CV!

Sorry to hear the sad news. Good luck with the job hunting.

Just don't make it too long, most people only look at the first couple of pages.

were you given a period of consultation?
Usually about 3 months, or did the Company go belly up?

I've sen a nine- pager once .... straight in the bin.

2 pages max, last job to earliest, givce details of responsibilities, reports (team etc) and major succeses, skills and courses.

That'll do it nicely

Friend of the family was owner/director of a company for many years, he said the same thing to me when I asked for advice.

I've seen one that was 33 pages long. I didn't read any of it.

Yea 1 month consultation followed by 12 weeks notice, which they don't want me to work but will pay me for anyway (so thats not so bad)

I think they actually use the term 'redeployment' but because I work in the Health & Safety department (yea yea - boo hiss) they describe this as a specialist field and there are unlikely to be other job vacancies within the company.

Thanks for the info so far - keep it coming!

I prefer 2 pages but many of my clients want the full life story unfortunately. It's a bugger when I get one of my consultants to put together a cracking 2 pager and then have to ask them to expand it to the nth degree.

Thats weird. I tried search, using the exact title of that thread - CV Help. And it returned zero results.

I struggled to get any interviews until I changed my Personal Profile to this,

"An open-minded individual with a flexible approach to work, which enables accommodation of change. Able to work well with a group or on own initiative. Willing to take any responsibilities and assginments, regardless of the challenge. A self-reliant individual with the ability to pick up new ideas and concepts quickly. Enjoys learning new skills and methods of working. Takes pride in producing excellent work and can accept constructive criticism. Organized and can work under pressure in a busy environment."

The interviews came rolling in and I now have a good job, hope this helps and good luck.

Good for you to be getting on with it asap. I'd probably be having a few beers tonight if I was in the circumstance.

I may have had a 2 1/2 pager sent in once. I did think it was a bit rubbish that they couldn't sort it out so it fit 2 pages.

Sorry to hear that you got made redundant.

However, onto bigger and better opportunities no doubt and I really do wish you the best of luck.

It didn't work for me either. I just remembered littlegreenfairy started that thread. So I got it that way.
