Apologies for the awful pun, but does anyone have any bright ideas of the following two aspects of fitting HIDs:

Mounting the balasts - I was going to rivet them somewhere high up in the cavity behind the headlight pod, but it's going to get a bit damp in there as the lower vent hole opens it to the elements. Any thoughts on an alternative location, or waterproofing (cling film and cable ties??)

Cleaning the reflectors - I really don't want to go through the grief of removing the headlight pods (although I might have to if the beam pattern needs adjusting), but the reflectors are filthy and clearly not doing the light output any favours. Short of training a team of mice to do my bidding, any clever ideas about how to clean them up a bit using only the 23mm bulb mounting hole?

Put a couple of mice with dusters on their feet in there, replace bulb and switch on.
Just watch them wiz round doing the cleaning for you.

Leave for a couple of mins.

Remove mice and feed tasty hot snack to cat.

Yes, I have a sick mindbiggrin

I mounted my ballasts high up in the inner wing, with 2 holes drilled throuh to the engine bay.
Forget about cleaning the reflectorrs, you cant, I tried it! I sprayed a bit of Pledge furniture polish on mine, gentle wipe with a soft duster, and all the chrome just wiped off!!
If you have a decent set of HID's the beam pattern should be fine.

The ballasts on my factory fit HIDs are attached to the access plate in the wheel-arch. They were pretty clean and dry when I last looked at them too.

I fitted them using industrial strenth double sided tape, and mounted them up on the inner wing.I didnt want to drill holes in the bodywork. Most kits come with a double sided tape option.I opted for something stronger....

One things for sure. You cant beat fitting H.I.D,s....

I found on both sides that there is a bolt end that comes into the cavity behind the lights from the engine compartment, fairly high up and out of the way. There was enough thread on this to bolt my balast packs to. I also put a good blob of silicone on the back of them to stop vibration and rattling.
