Watching the ITV News at 6.35 and they did the medal table at the end of the programme. Mark Austin said something like "Team GB are still in 3rd behind China and the USA and most importantly in front of Australia in 4th place."

Made my night. rofl

Arrogant in victory, very sore losers, oh how I love it when the shoe is on the other foot. Reminds me of Ashes 2005.

Most of their gold medals are in either rowing or sailing. We even got more gold in both previously mentioned events.

You think it's funny over there? You should try being here.

The media is basically crying. Obscene waste of money anyway, so couldn't care less.

Any links? I'd like to read it.

The only one I saw was where some hack was trying to place all the GB cycling success on an Australian coach.

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/beijing_olympics/... at work so don't have time to search high and low, but all these soundbites about how dissapointed people are.

Bit cringeworthy really.

The front page of the Sydney Morning Herald the day we (England) won the rugby world cup was an extremely humble article by an Aussie explaining how England were extremely deserving winners and all credit to them etc...

That article reinforced my opinion that as a nation the Aussies are simply GREAT sportsmen in every sense of the word.

(whiney, nasal voice)

"Ahhh man, its not fay-ire......"

As they might like to use statistics to show how good they are, here's one I've made.

We have more medlas then them, from a total of 311 athletes competing in the games. They have 434. thats over 100 more athletes trying for medals. I mean, they cant even beat Russia....

so basically we have more athletes per capita than you do hehe

I'm going to take your word on it. I find the whole concept of the olympics/what it has become a bit weird.

Being serious for a bit, the reason why the Aussies are so angry / disappointed, is the same reason why they are such a great sporting nation. Their culture is about winning rather than the UK's "taking part" "love the loser, hate the winner" culture.

I think it's superb that GB have done so well, but I have to admit that I am quite pleased by the fact that the we're ahead of the Aussies - they aren't such noble winners as anyone who has watched cricket or rugby will attest to.

Personally, I'm more happier that we're beating the old rival - Le France.

I'd like to know who was given a lump of lottery money and actually put it to good use! In these days of government/quango waste and inefficiency it is almost unheard of.

Crikey. I wasn't aware we were doing that bad. Just thought you lot were doing quite well for a change.
Most of our medals have been chicks.. some of our blokes have let us down a bit.

I don’t mind biting. I’ve been seriously impressed about what GB has done. It’s the best result for you guys since 1908 or something like that. Well done.

I wish we were beating you, I don’t deny that at all. That’s what a rivalry is all about.

In saying that, I don’t think its escaped anyone that Australia has ~ 20 million people. If medals were pro ratad based on population figures…

Careful, Jamaica may end up ahead of Australia using that measure.

God that really is. Dissappointed with a silver medal in the Olympics? Blimey!

I just don't understand this UK/Aus thing. There are a LOT of nations represented. Why the rivalry?
