Hi Guys,

Just a quick one, wanted to upgrade my phone, however couldn't without incurring a £300 fee. Was rather p*ssed off to also find out that I have been put on a 18 month contract when I stipulated that I wanted 12 months only.

I got someone from an Indian call centre who was rather polite, however couldn't action a p*ss up in a brewery. Then passed to someone more arrogant than myself (NEVER!)

All my contracts have been for 12 months and 12 months only, I requested that they went back to a voice recording however I was told they do not record all calls.

Is there anything I can do ? The ironic thing is that I am happy to stay with Orange, however do not wish to be bound to a 18 month contract.

Cheers

Sunil

I had this before they claim that when you change tarifs you make a verbal contract with the provider that it is an 18 month contract... if youve only signed up to a 12 month contract and have that in writing could threaten the old legal bods?

I'm not with them now but I'm sure they used to provide a copy of the contracts for upgrades and I know they would have done it for a new customer. I think you're just going to have to suck this one up matey. My missus had the same problem when she last upgraded and there was nowt we could do as she should have checked the contract she was given.

When o2 change you up from 12months to 18m they ask for a password or maiden name to "prove" that you authorised the change. Maybe Orange do the same? If so, ask them to prove you authorised it..

Hi Guys,

Thanks for replies, I think that I am stuffed as I don't bother to check my bills. I'm 4 months into my contract. However I would never have signed up for a 18 month contract.

They really are a bunch of b'stards!

I signed up for a renewed contract with them on Monday, the Canary 40 plan with the 2.50 Blackberry service and a 10% discount for living in central London. After getting home and finding the Internet service wasnt working i called them up to find out id actually been put on the Dolphin 40 and there was no sign of any Blackberry package or discount. Luckily i have a paper contract with all the relevant details on it so after a few calls ive finally got it sorted......at least i think i have until i see the first bill rolleyes

They did this to me as well. When it came to upgrade time again they told me I'd still another 6 months left. Thankfully I had kept the invoice that was sent along with my mobile which i think stated the phone type, contract type and length of contract. If you dont check your bills do you still have this? Maybe in the box along with your phone?

Does the Orange website not store your bills online for so many months? Also worth checking. I can't remember now as I left as soon as they sorted this.

That's a bit Londonist. Why don't they give everyone discount?

Just cancel the direct debit. On my Orange contract it says I have the right to cancel it at any time.

Are you sure it was India and not an Indian in Darlington? Orange call centres are in Darlington and somewhere Devon way, I wasn't aware that anyone from Orange had to go to India each day to work.
When they say they don't record the calls they are lying, I am sure if it suited them to find a call they would do.
I learnt my lesson a few weeks ago with getting contracts over the phone with 3G, just don't ever do them, the sales people lie to you just to get a sale.

I was with 3 and they did the same thing to me, i stipulated a 12month and they put me on an 18monther!
I told them i wasnt happy and they could fk off(not in those words) they told me there was nothing they could do now.
If they say they dont record all calls its st as i had a mate who worked in a call centre and he said it automaticlaly records the calls as soon as an operator picks it up.
If you block the direct debit you can just say its a dispute of contract however, they won't give you a contract in the future again!
