i'm currently on a contract for my mobile phone, but have been with the provider for so long now that i am not under a fixed term contract, i can terminate it at any point with a month's notice.

unfortunately i have had some really poor experiences with the customer 'service' and billing depts. of my provider, so much so that i've had enough and want to jump ship.

my only problem with this is the fact i'd have to sign for a new 12/18mth contract on any new deal, and i may be emigrating in early 2009.

does anyone know the penalty for breaking the contract early? also, with most operators being pan-european, is it possible to simply transfer the contract over to the equivalent tariff in another country?

silly question i know, but none of the shops i visited at lunch could provide an answer.

cheers,
phil.

Yeah you just pay them the outstanding amount ie if 7 months left they will charge 7x the monthy rate and then release you.

It's usually called a cessation fee, you are as mentioned buying out the remaining contract term. As things can go wrong, why not end it now and use a PAYG?

hmm don't fancy that then as the contracts i've been looking at are all 18mths.

thinking about 02's payg thing, more like a contract with no set timeframe, but i need a new phone ideally.

cheers anyway
