So the question in my mind, is what was the day, and date of the first day in the first AD millennium?

Any crazy answer accepted.

And TBH I don't know the answer; I'm not actually sure there is one!

What's the date Jesus died? It's that in 1001 surely? Seeing as he was born in the year 1.

Best answer I've heard yet, but the thing is that if you go by those special dates they say it's actually more like 3 or 4 BC.

Some have said there was no year zero, so I assumed there was and figured that AD (the first day) was a Friday. I'm pretty sure that's wrong though. (despite the fact that it will line up with today if you do the sums)

scratchchinhehe

I've also heard that the date system was derived quite a bit later (AD 500 or so), and it actually revolves around Easter. The trouble is that if true, and I think it might be, it makes even the idea of when date started completely obscure.

I wondered also if another way to figure this out would be to try and pin down the youngest disputed date. Then I realised that you only have to go to the pub at closing time and ask, to realise that date is actually sometime next week.

Whichever way, and whilst absolute suggestions are good, I guess the reasoning is always going to be more interesting than the actual answer.

Wouldnt that make him 1,000 years old when he died. I always though Jebus died aged ~40.

I suppose you could work out the day. Although leap years would make things abit complicated as rounding would cause problems.

Back on topic - its the 21st today HTH

Leap years aren't a problem really, divide by 4 (or 400 for a century). The complication comes with the change from Julian to Gregorian calendars.

Julian date for 01/01/0001 is 1721423.5 (the US navy provided the calculation)

Err, I don't mind really. I thought we could use a system like the Swedes did in 1712.... February 30th.

Many thanks for that, I wasn't aware of the difference.

What intrigues me more is that when they switched systems, the dates jumped but the day names followed in sequence.
