Well i was bored the other day and looking for some demos on Gamespot, looking for a flight sim but couldn't find one. I then saw an open beta called Mount and Blade. Usually open betas are pretty pants but i though what the hey, it's free and small in size and can be deleted.

150mb in size was pretty tiny i thought, but i quite fancied looting some villages. Well the first bit worried me as it was a top down click and move type situation which was boring, i then got in to a village on my horse and started recruiting some chaps to help me kick some arse, i then bought some fish for my chaps for some campfire munch. .Ok it was looking a bit boring but i persisted, as io left the village in weird top down view when another chap came over and offered me out. The cheek of it, i thought i was aware that in my inventory i had rather a large sword and the blokes i just hired had some knives. "Shag off" i told him to which he said he would drink from my skull (nice chap, reminded me of Romford) then suddenly it changed in to a kind of close in, medieval total war view of a battlefield and my chaps started to charge, st hot i thought and rode off ordering everyone to charge!

8 blokes came over the horizon throwing spears (enter michael Caine Quote here) wich rather annoyed me as i had just paid 10d for this farmer who now had a spear sticking out of his head and looked in some discomfort. "ill ave you" i muttered and proceeded to charge on my horse, hang of the side with my sword ready and cut his head off with one clea swipe. After 10 mins of fierce battle all my hired meat was dead and i was left in the middle of a pile of bodies cheering, i then stole all their stuff and sold it at a Market.

Well the game is good fun, a little bit of adventure touring the world and then some good old fashioned killing things on horse back and on foot as they killed my horse a few times and i had to buy a new one, which was pretty expensive. You buy swords, armour, horses, spears, food, people (and sell prisoners if you catch some and dont kill them) and eventually build up an army in which you try and overthrow various kings. There are some good tactics involved, and some good old fashioned hack and slash action. But beware, i picked on a king who was riding through, he disrespected me and i though with my group of 15 people, a few horses and some archers i could "ave im" but it turned out he had 75 troops, archers, cavellry, spear men the lot and my men were slaughtered but ofcorse i survived and taken prisoner whilst all my men were killed and plundederd.

Well if you are still reading at this point i would recommend having a little go, i was surprised how adictive it was. Graphically it isn't much and of course it is not the finished article, but good fun.

Download and info is here http://www.taleworlds.com/mb_download.html

Not sure about multiplayer but it would be fun. To buy and unlock the full game £20.00

Perhaps a note to the moaning developers that their are other ways to do things.

Sounds interesting. Incidentally I was also on gamespot this morning looking for a jet fighter game, don't suppose you had any luck finding anything?

Not a thing, i was looking for a WW2 flight sim i had seen a while ago that looked nice and was supposed to be released soon but couldn't find it.

Not alot around, there is the "wings over" series but they are not hard core, but quite fun, Wings over Israel i think is the most recent one.

If you find a good one, let me know.

I was looking at the new Tom Clancy one which looks quite interesting although I don't think it could really be classed as a sim. Still the fact it has a co-op campaign could be quite good.

Is there any multiplayer action?

They are supposed to release Version 1 in September.

Lock On: Modern Air Combat is your jet sim. Sometimes referred to just as LOMAC, it's great!
