Hi Guys, wondering if anyone can help.... I have an issue with some fairly substantial lacquer peeling on the roof of my 20VT Coupe . whilst i know that i need to take it in for a re-spray i don't actually have the funds to do it yet.

So my question is: Are there any products available that can be applied to minimise the spread/damage of the peel and now exposed paint???

Cheers!

Touch up packs usually have a pot of paint and a pot of lacquer. It's pretty hard stuff though and might make a respray more costly down the line.

How long are you planning on leaving it?

i know it sounds silly but what about hair spray?!?!?!?

It's really runny and will get under the lifting bits but will also hold it in place when it drys.

plus it is easy to remove once you have it painted??????

never tried it mind but just came to me....

Just a couple of months i think, should have seen it coming and kept some cash to one side really....... hindsight eh!

Definitely not going to leave it that long so dont want to bodge it my self and ending up paying more for the re-spray.

just really dont want the issue to get down to the metal.... will it be ok for a couple of months do you think??

Grease... Easy to apply and top up and will repel the water until you can do a proper repair. There may be better solutions but grease won't do any long term harm.

Shouldn't need the hairspray TBH unless it's lifting badly. I have "fixed" lifting lacquer with nail polish in the past but only on a snotter.

Coming a bit late to the party, but if you're planning on a respray anyway, why not ask your bodyshop if it would be better to leave the paint as is or if they could just blow it over with a little clearcoat?

It doesn't have to be pretty after all, as long as you've got the protection you need.
