New 3er engines

Apologies in advance if this is old news. I've been scouring the web finding out about the facelift 3er engines coming out, hopefully this will save someone doing the same thing. 
The two interesting new engines are:
330d - All new ally engine, bit of extra oomph, probably reduced weight (TBC.) From BMW website:
"The new six-cylinder 2,993cc engine in the 330d produces 245hp at 4,000rpm, 14hp up over its predecessor. Torque has also increased by 20Nm to 520Nm and this peak figure is available from 1,750rpm through to 3,000pm. The 330d Saloon and Touring now accelerates from zero to 62mph in 6.1 seconds before going on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. The economy and emissions of the new 330d have improved from 46.3mpg to 49.6mpg and 160g/km to 152g/km." Interestingly, the 330d manual is now quicker to 60 than the 335d which is only available in auto.
The exciting thing about this is that one would imagine the 335d will get this same engine with the Bosche twin turbo set up, and you would expect small gains to power and economy. No news on this I can find. There is a potential problem - I haven't found anywhere that can remap the new BMW diesels yet, so a remapped old 330d/335d will probably still be quicker then the new 330d/335d.
335i - New twin clutch gearbox.
This is exciting. According to these Aussie stats, there will be a 7 speed DCT-style transmission available on the 335i imminently: http://images.paultan.org/docs/e92dctbrochure.pdf
As a little comparison, I've put some figures together. I've used the Aussie PDF above and done a ratio on the CO2 to calculate CO2 and MPG, and used 200ms as the shift time for 0-60. I've assumed that the 335i Manual old+new will be exactly the same.
Considering the 335i auto is popular, this is quite a big positive change for it - 0.4s off the 0-60 and over 5% improvement in economy.

I've been reading about them. Apparently the have to be ballasted so they don't take off they're that fast.

Joystick gearbox? I think they're all the same 6 speed Getrag auto, which is used extensively by Jag too. What's the joystick? Heres the earlier type that was in the 535d

It has a much slicker, faster shift (better than the clunky earlier version), and is one of the factors as to why the LCI 535d is 4mpg better than the pre LCI model.
Another feature i like about it is the fact that when you switch the car off it automatically goes to 'P' mode - i guess because its fully electronic...
