As per title. Looking for 4.5 cerb with broken engine / gearbox. Will be replaced with LSX/T56/TKO600 units.

I am very aware that lots of people feel that this is wrong thing to do. Those opinions are dully noted. Want ideas where / how to get hold of one. If someone here knows one do let me know.

Thanks

I'm obviously missing something here smile

But if your after a car with a knackered engine, that your going to replace....... Why does the knackered engine have to be a 4.5 ?

Good question. From what I read / know (which is well nothing really) 4.5 has better brakes, better diff, wheels (?) and few other bits and pieces.

Will gladly be corrected on any of the above issues smile

Thanks

track; thanks for resisting, your opinion on the subject is respected even if ultimately ignored. smile

I would have thought with the kind of money your going to be spending on the engine transplant, an upgrade on the brakes are going to be the least of your worries smile

There's a speed six in the classifieds with a duff engine.

Job done smile

In fact at £7k forget the speed six

Mixi's 4.5 has had a recent rebuild and was advertised at £8k.... I'm sure you'll get more than a grand for the rebuilt 4.5 engine smile

What ever you do, do not say you don't like Purple....... We've only just brought him round from sedation..... Tell him you don't like the wheels or something ...... Anything but the colour !

Thanks Russelm,

I can have engine/gbox for £3K (all refurbed to as new condition). Friend is mechanic and owes couple of favors. So, I'd rather spend 5k on blown engine car + 3k eng/gbox and leave 2k for chasis refurb.
When it comes to money I'm very very cautious.

They must be pretty big favours if your mechanic is going to do all the work and pay for all the mods and fabrication that is necessary...

Look at the Hydratrack thread, the 4.2 diff is better, maybe? Mine was a 4.2 and the brakes have so far had no problems, i have not Tracked it yet, well not anymore than Vmax/Fighting Torque. I would be much more wary of chassis issues if i were you, because if you dont have the facility to sort that then...... If you cant sort the chassis i would rather buy a pristine speed6 than a rough 4.5, by the way i got around 1.5K for my knackered 4.2 bits after listing all the odds and ends on ebay.

I'm sure it is a lot of work. Thanks for the heads up.

Brummie, video of your car was final confirmation that it is right thing to do. Of course I'd get the best chassis possible. End result will probably be a keeper and as such will get all parts at least refurb to new or replace. Later will probably bolt sc on it ala diycerbera thing.

Anyhow back on topic anyone knows of a good donor ?

I thought my suggestion was a good one. Mixi's at £8000 & take the engine out.

What's a recently rebuilt 4.5 worth ?

To give you an idea, I've just had my 4.2 done, and it was over three grand.... that's without the x amount of months I was without the car.

smile Happy hunting

Second though ... Forget lsx, I'll just stick 335d engine (unmapped) + auto gearbox
