As per above.... the Mrs will not be happy.

Criteria Within 3 hrs drive from Reading - so Brecon Beacons, New Forest, Forest of Dean? Other suggestions?

Also dont have time to phone round hunting for vacancies so any help/web based online booking would be ideal.

Please help me out else its going to be costly hotels instead.

Oh, dear. You tvvat.

How about the Witterings? Bit bucket and spade, but a nice area with a fair bit within easy reach.

How about a bit of wild camping? That's what my girlfriend has decided we're going to be spending the Bank Holiday weekend.

Gives you a chance to go all Ray Mears and carve a canoe out of a dead badger, or something.

mate your fooked, start thinking of excuses along the lines of

" i thought as everyone will be going places this weekend, rather than getting stuck in traffic and stressing, i thought we'd spend some quality time together, go out for a mc donalds then watch the racing on tv, no?!"

The legality of it is dubious, but you can camp anywhere in Scotland. In England and Wales The National Trust says; "it does not generally allow camping on non-recognised sites without permission. 'Wild camping', where permitted (for example in the Lake District, in upland areas above 450m), should be out of sight of the public highway, entail only one-night stopovers with a maximum of two campers and leave no trace of their presence."

Plenty of sites on the internet about it. If you can find a friendly landowner, or a really secluded spot, then I am sure it wouldn't be a problem. Pitch late, leave early, and don't leave a mess seem to be the general rules.

Its in a forest too. 3 nights £27.50 2 adults and a gazeebo & extra large tent, stunning value.
