I serviced our Griff last night and did the first oil change after fitting one of those magnetic sump plugs the previous time - I couldn't believe the amount of stuff stuck to the end of it! (And that's with a recently rebuilt engine too). A blob of metallic rubbish about 10mm across. I suppose the filter would stop it going anywhere but it certainly can't do any harm to catch it that way.

Also I've clearly hit something under the car at the sump plug too, with a small chunk taken out of the bottom of it; I can now believe that the standard hex head ones can undo themselves after hitting things making me even more glad that I fitted it!

Here's to the next 6k miles smile

Where do you buy these magnetic sump plugs? The last one I had was in a mini in the 60,s, really picked up a lot of metal, cheers, John.
