Got the mesh off eBay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...
It's tough as nails! Tried side cutetrs, tin snips, aviation shears and even bolt cutters to try and trim it!
Got annoyed and used a disc cutter in then end though! - Power Tools - Ideal!
I cable tied my old grille to the new mesh and just sliced around it. Getting it back in was alright. A little stiff but thats cos I squashed my mesh togther a bit at the cable tie phase as I didn't want it slopping about. Think I overdid it a bit tho...
Have done mine, very similar to Leven one with securing band of stainless to follow front profile.
I secured it with 6 st/st screwed inserts complete with 5MM stainless domed allen headed screws.
Drilled holes into fibre glass and used araldite twin pack to hold them in left for 4hrs to harden off then fitted.
The type I used are for metal and use a proper gun to fix them but I did not want to put extra strain onto fibreglass.
Will post pics when I find how to do it.

You can get about 80% of the mesh back into the seal before it becomes difficult. Lubricate the remainder with neat washing-up liquid and lay the mesh on the seal.Use the end of a flat screwdriver blade to slide over the mesh and under the seal to lift the seal in place, working your way around the edge.(If you lubricate all of the seal first the mesh will bed in better everywhere)

New grill, son home, has posted pics, so here they are.
The profile is laser cut and the mesh hand cut, trouble was cost, Leven,s grill is not that much cheaper than the one I made, had to buy full sheets of both mesh and plate in 316 stainless, expensive, maybe find some cheap materials on fleabay.
I still have paper cut out for profile if any body wants it I can post free of charge.
Cheers,

I am also thinking about changing the grill colour so thank you to the OP for such good timing! (and the car looks great btw) A question........has anybody gone down the route of just painting the original grill and if so with what results? Would imagine prep is the key as you clearly can't flat each bit as you would with a panel.
On the subject of putting the grill back on it is worth removing the bonnet first - a bit of extra faff but enables you to see the top run - I am assuming of course that you are fitting the grill and seal together rather than fixing the seal and inserting the grill into it afterwards. I believe both are options but I've never has any success with the latter method
Cheers,
Andy
