First dates::::::::::::::::::

Relaxed lunch. That way it's easy and inexpensive to get home if you decide it isn't working, but alternately you can extend the date into the afternoon and evening if it's going really well.
That would be perfect...but, I fear in this case its already past that stage. I know whether or not the carpets match the curtains...in fact there are no curtains. You see my point? I like the cinema. Its one of those old fashioned 'will he, wont he' scenarios....but I'm not sure anymore.

Cosy but trendy independant restaurant
I might be pished but still don't agree, if it's a first date she / you might want to leg it so you don't want to be stuck having a meal for ages.also some women don't appriciate being watched eating, they are all wierd after all
NOT the cinema. It's too obvious and it gives you precious little time to have a good chat with each other. I find that a nice restaurant always works (despite being equally obvious), it's intimate without being too pushy and gives you a chance to get to know each other. Make sure it's not too posh, or you'll look like you're trying too hard, but not a Harvester either.
ETA: If the worst comes to the worst and you're totally incompatible then just f
k off and leave her with the bill

I had planned to take the woman who was to become my wife to a Woody Allen film for our first date.
Instead, we ended up in on the Commercial Road in the East End of London watching the warehouse next to mine burn to the ground. I was a bit preoccupied with beseeching the fire brigade to save my gaff and I quite forgot her.
However, she calmly waited until the drama was over and I got her home at about 3am the next morning.
We were married within the year. And divorced within seven.
Oh, I just read the thread.....I assumed it was about 'strange first dates'.
