Any thoughts on the place please. I'm thinking about taking the MG over there sometime.

I've been told the place is like goiong back in time to the late'70s - a slower pace of life.

Is it true there are no speed limits on roads out of town?

Would I find it rewarding as a place to take my MG for a bit of fun?

Is it expensive? Eating out, beers accomodation?

Never driven a car on a ferry before. Is it a big hassle?

Any other thoughts and reccomendations appreciated.

Just spent a few days over on business this week, seems to be a slower pace of life for sure, the sea front promenade is like any other in the UK, but is generally peaceful and quiet and not as many chavs.

Shops seem to shut at six and Douglas is very quiet after this.

The locals seem to have a refreshing attitude to speed. My customer explaining that he had been at '130 down that bit' in reference to a bit of road on the way to the airport hehe

A useful model of a society with no speed limits.

If the Speedkills lobby was correct, eveybody on the IOM would be dead by now, and they're not.

I lasted a day, after that I had to leave.

The whole place was just very Meh, the novelty of the no speed limit roads wears off after you have done a lap and realised it wont ever get any longer or better than that.

I went for a long weekend there with the wife in jan. most touristy things were shut then due to being out of season. We stayed at the mount murray country club and i can highly reccomend it. Good parking aswell. A freind of mine has been over there a lot of times and has also done the tt so he gave me a map with all the best driving roads. ofcourse the best bit is over the mountain as long as there is no fog. The gooseneck at ramsey is the start of non limited road and goes right over the hills all the way to douglas. Nice road and i had a csl at the time and it lapped it up. Theres lots of interesting things to do and see there so i would definately reccomend a long driving weekend. Hope this is of help.

That'd be funny if it wasn't true.

My parents and sister have lived on the island for over 10 years (god only knows why) and still get the comment "Boat leaves for Liverpool every morning" if they complain about anything. Seriously inward looking population who don't seem to realise that without the outsiders the island would be bankrupt and they'd all really have three legs from the inbreeding.

Wherever possible, I get them to visit me so I can avoid the island, I think it's a dump. If I didn't have family there, I would never have made a second visit.

I flicked onto a programme last night called 'Britains Toughest Pubs'.

Avoid 'The Heron' on the IOM.
