I've just googled for an online translator thingy and found one. When I clicked on it I got four other windows opening up offering me poker, car loans etc.
Why do these websites do this? I know they make money out of it but it would make me not use them again. As for the advertisers in the pop ups, ferk off I'm busy.
A very poor rant by PH standards I know.. but I'm busy!!

Good suggestion, anything apart from IE is better for popups.

Firefox 3 is a buggy unfinished disgrace.
Stick with IE7 or FF2
Safari's pretty good too.

However, to the original poster you're googling for an online translator and didn't notice google's own language tools? No popups there.

Firefox is fvcking with me. I have FF3 on my Vista laptop, runs great, Adblock, Dictionaries, the lot, but I can't get it to run at all on my XP pc, and when I reloaded FF2 it won't take Adblock now OR the UK English spellcheck dictionary now...rage

WTF are Mozilla plaything at?????

Anyone else tried Opera lately?
I think it's pretty brilliant. No problems with pop-ups or adware recently (fingers crossed). It's faster than IE7 and better in many ways.
The only con I've found so far is it can't play the type of video output by some live webcams.
I didn't have a problem with FF3's stability and sometimes it was faster than IE7 but it wasn't significantly better.

Four popups is a bit excessive - what site was it?

I used to be a loyal Opera user, but over the last couple of months I've found it going downhill and now it's a buggy, unusable piece of crap which is slow as hell to load any pages. Which is a shame, because I usually prefer it over FF....

I use IE7 (fully updated), with BitDefender anti virus and Spyboy Search & Destroy.

Between the three of them, they keep my PC fairly popup/crap-free.

I use Opera all the time and the 9.5x versions are considerably quicker than the older ones.

I like the way it's so easy to block st and it's so easy to set up site preferences so that eg. flash works on youtube but not on any other site. Generally, in terms of the stuff I want to change about its behaviour it is a lot more controllable than FF. I use FF occasionally and tend to find myself poking about in the menus thinking "where TF is the option for this" and eventually concluding it hasn't got it.

Opera does not have form autocompletion but 95% of the time I don't care. I don't use form autocompletion on things that do have it because moving hand away from keyboard onto mouse and then clicking one of the things in the drop-down list takes longer than just keeping my hands on the keyboard and finishing what I was typing.

The default skin on 9.5x is st but it's easy to install the default skin from previous versions.

One thing about Opera that really really pisses me off though is that 9.5x will not allow remote web pages to make reference to local resources, and there is no option to turn this behaviour off. So I can't see my own pictures that I post on fora, etc. Which is a fking pain in the arse.

This is the first time I've seen people have probs with FF3. Thank God! Thought I was the only one. I run it on my XP laptop and it crashes regularly. Runs quicker than IE7 but WHY is it so BUGGY now?!!

Tried Opera a while back but didn't really like it; took to the old FF straight away though. Since tried Safari as I was told it was quicker than anything else....and it seems to be on some sites but I just can't get on with the interface.

It does, fill in the form in preferences under 'wand' then it'll fill in the details if you ask.

I use the Google toolbar which has a pop-up blocker, works fine with IE7.

I don't mean that sort of stuff, I mean the usual typing in "box of frogs" to Google and as soon as you've got as far as "bo" a drop-down box appears with "bonking aliens" and "borborygmus" and "bouncing breasts" and all the other things beginning with "bo" that you've searched for recently. It doesn't do that, but as I say I don't use it on browsers that do.

I just use 'down arrow' and 'return'.
