Alternator/rectifier?
Discussion
Hi all,
Just curious if anyone has any advice. I have noticed the voltage on the pod showing between 14v and 15v whereas it used to show pretty much 13.8v all the time. Also notice that the main lights and the speedo needle lights seem to be "pulsing" slightly.
Is this is a case of "change/refurb the alternator asap" or am I ok to monitor it for a while?
Cheers
Andy

I'd get the alternator looked at ASAP.
If it was the 100A fuse the voltage would gradually drop, and would never go above 12ish volts.
Sounds like the rectifier is shot, and by constantly running 15-16 volts you risk damage to the dashpod and ECU.
It'll be worth checking the condition of the fuse at the same time the alternator is sorted, as they are marginal at even 13-14 volts, and the extra load may aggravate any weaknesses.

Cheers guys, as I thought then - change it before it gets worse or does any damage...
Just looked at the price of a new alternator
- wonder if I could claim on the AA breakdown repair cover...
(think it actually has to break-down first though
)
I'll check the 100A fuse but I think Neil is right though and the rectifier is kaput,
Thanks
