Sorry matey peeps, I just wanted to add my three pennyworth and the thread has been closed (not surprised really). For what it's worth, I like this forum and the people on it. Does what I want and if not, there are exisiting HSV/Chev/GTO technical forums a plenty. Not wanting to piss on anyone's party, but I hope we can maintain the spirit which is already here within the Pistonheads family, and like Chris says, old farts like me and him, like to keep things simple.

I'm glad you re-opened that. I tried to respond but it had been locked. Not being rude but i did sign up to the other forum but only because i'm cack on the computer and i wanted to see if i could. No offense but i wont be using it as i'm more thean happy with this one. People may come and go but as Alan pointed out on the locked thread the real enthusiasts will be here to stay. nerdI personlly log on to our site and spend hours reading threads trying to learn about these beasts that we all love whilst enjoying a bit of banter. I love it and i aint movin. Essay over blabla Mel

I missed the other thread as I was having a HUGE weekend thumbup but you'll have to venture into the P&P if you want to know about that wink music driving beer cloud9 woohoo

Just had a look and FWIW I thought it was fking rude for a newbie to come in here promoting a rival forum. I'm surprised it was allowed to run as long as it did. Wouldn't happen in the main forums, I guess this is a bit of a backwater and doesn't get the same level of moderation as the main forums do...

Oh and BTW this is the only Monaro forum I use, and I'm in Australia

just incase i get implicated in this because i orginally started the thread. i asked an innocent question based on the fact that the forum was diffrent to those i have seen elsewhere and asked if anyone had thought about makin our own forum not for any other reason as it seemed an afterthought to me all being in one section etc. if people like it like that fine i dont but ill continue to post as im a vxr owner and as such this is the place to be.

I do find it funny that people get so excited and angry about 'rival forums' amd the like we are all adults arn't we?

Its actually quite expensive running a forum or can be depending on volume of traffic it receives, hence why we have sponsors advertising on here. If someone comes along and takes everyone away to new forum then the people running this one will see traffic drop off, revenue from advertisers will disappear and before you know it they'll be paying for the privilege of providing this site for the few that remain. That is why on here and most other forums they have rules about promoting "competitor" sites or non sponsor advertising. In this case I dont know if the person involved in setting up the other site was actually envisaging it replacing or competing with this site or mearly using it to show off some of his ideas of how this site could be improved upon and to be fair the moderators on here allowed the thread to run for longer than most sites would have and indeed they havent deleted the thread as most would have. Fair play to the mods I'd say.

Hey mate, don't worry about it. After all this is a free country and everyone is allowed to have an opinion, and we all have different tastes and preferences. My experience is that when you first come on here it is difficult to get involved until you get to know folk, and the only way you get to do that is to participate in one of the various gatherings. Having participated in three now, through this forum, I have met some really great guys and gals and enjoyed their company.

I felt initially that there was a lot of potential help at hand, but difficult to participate when no-one knows you. However, having stuck with it for a while, I have now have found new friends and aquaintances in an area of common interest (V8 petrol fumes etc!).

I think what is being said in various ways, is that everyone with a Holden/HSV/Monaro/VXR8 (or not)is welcome here. But to want to try and change things within a moment of joining may or may not have implications for this forum. Like I said if it's not to whoevers personal taste, well, no one is making you do anything against your will, hey?

FWIW Ive had a look at the other site, and it looks fine, but my choice is to stick it out here it's more my cup of tea.

Nah, managed to totally ignore and avoid anything to do with that bandwagon. I have a deep prejudice against mass market sports, here you can win at State or National level in Motorsport and you're still a nobody compared to some cretin who plays "football" (that's the pathetic Aussie Rules thug's game)
I was at a pub with a few mates a couple of months ago, between us there were 2 current National Champions (V8 utes and Saloon cars) as well as around a dozen previous State Titles between us. The only one of the group who got recognised was the one who plays reserve grade for a WAFL football team... rolleyes

Anyway, no, brief summary: I played my first rehearsal on Friday night since switching from guitar to bass, filling in for a mate in a Pink Floyd tribute band. Haven't had so much fun since I stopped racing (17 years ago yikes )
Then I met up on Saturday with a girl I went out with in my early 20s who contacted me thru Myspace, could have been a disaster but we got on great and seeing her again next weekend wink
Sunday went to see more friends play a gig, great way to finish a weekend in the sun with a G&T listening to a great band with good friends thumbup

I generally access the forum through the www.hsv.org.uk link which doesn't come up with a lot of the pistonheads stuff, plus I get a bit busy elsewhere.
I have visited the Aussie part of Pistonheads but most of you are in my old stomping ground of Perth, or that other minor East coast town with a bridge and a largish town hall with a funny roof.

haha yeah there are a few of us in Perth in fact it looks like we have the bulk of the active PHers in Oz which is a bit strange. We had our first Perth PH meet a couple of weeks ago and are planning a few more thumbup. Summers coming, it's the last week of Winter here and the 'ro is showing 28degC outside today :brrr: hehe
