I'm hoping it strengthens significantly...................
Saw some artcles last week, and have a friend who trades the $ against the £ and the general sentiment is that the US is further into the recession than the UK and can actually see the turning point, where as we are pretty near the beginning.
As such they see the US economy as it better shape than the UK......some forecasters have suggested it may go as low as $1.50 in the next 12 months, my (completely guessing) opinion, more like $1.70......

With UK growth pretty much stalled at 0.2%, and the US potentially crawling out of their recession sooner than us, the trend in the graphs linked suggest the days of 2 bucks to the pound are now over.

Against the £ i'm expecting to see 1.80 pretty soon and 1.70 before the end of the year may not be too far off the mark.
The UK is a dying economy with flat growth and it's only going to be a matter of time before there's negative growth. MPC will have to start cutting rates to stimulate the economy which will only weaken the £ further. We thought the US had problems, it's nothing compared to what's going to be hitting in the UK due to the passive nature of economic policy makers.
All my opinion of course and the city knows nothing.
