Just been speaking to the missus about upgrading our home ents system.

currently have a load of disparate gear bought many moons ago - christ - was actually when we were students over ten years ago yikes - DVD players/Amps/CD players/Ipods/Laptop etc - which I'm hoping to rationalise into one all singing all dancing system.

Now - my dilemma is this: most of our music is still on CD, the laptop has approx 1/4 of our collection on it on i-tunes - which we periodically chop and change to individual players.

Thinking about getting an digital (MP3/4) seperates unit to host all our music.

This however leads to the issue - if the musics on there, we may as well get a digital hard drive for the TV - and if we're doing that a new TV would probably be a good investment etc. etc.

I'm a bit of a techie numpty - but would like advice on the following:

1) Can i-tunes library be exported onto a secondary player without having to keep hooking up to the laptop to manage the music?

2) Can said secondary players be hooked up to our virgin media cable box for recording films etc. from cable?

3) does anyone know of any decent suppliers of this AV hard drive box that i'm thinking about?

Cheers in advance!

BERGS

as i'm spending bank holiday afternoon trying to sort out my tunes...

I've got an ARCHOS 404 media player which i'm trying to hook up to my i-tunes.

does anyone know how to do this?

tried i-tunes agent but it doesnt recognise the Archos in either media device or hard drive mode.... confused

i'd guess this is the case for syncing any non- ipod to i-tunes?

help anyone!

Why dont you just invest in a simple system and use your ipod as the hard rive via the AUX in?
If you want any advice just drop me a mail and I'll go through it in more depth

Squeezebox is cheap enough and does the do.

I gave away my previous hi fi some years ago (Linn LP12, 'The Preamp' and one or two other aged but decent units) and moved to 100% CD. Now I'm 100% MP3 and use Squeezebox to play them through the hi fi. The MP3 Library is on a Freecom drive.

Last week i replaced all my old cd/amp/speakers/kit with an 80gb iPod and B&W Zeppelin.

Very impressed with the sound, for what it is...
