I used to go every week with the folks... Cradley Heath at the dudley wood track, which is sadly now deralict...
as with most of the kids I stood outside the first bend, getting covered in shale every lap...
after the races we used to hang by the pits to try and get to push the riders bikes back for them
must be 25 years ago holy crap....
Bruce Penhall was the star rider at the time... the guy had had a go at acting in CHips.
edited to say Oh crap Im getting old I remember him winning the world championships and that was 81 and 82.... He got congratulated by Ronald Regan IIRC....
also whats the sissy mud flap they have on the back now !!!

Ex Long Eaton fan also sadly gone ,burned down by a nasty high street bank.I met Bruce Penhall at the Nigel Wasley Memorial meeting in 1980 he was a really nice bloke.Was also at Wembley for his World final win in 1981 ,a great event 100,000+ crowd.as with most of the kids I stood outside the first bend, getting covered in shale every lap...

OH yes the cissy mud flap has been around about 10 years or so ,protects the spectators from flying shale. All part of the fun I always thought

Used to go whenever I was on holiday with the parents as a child, Kings Lynn if we were in Great Yarmouth, Poole Pirates if anywhere vaguely close on the south coast. Think it's where I got my Castrol R addicition from 
. They grew up in London, used to go every week in the 1950s and still enjoy it, I took them down to Bridgewater to watch the Somerset Rebels when they came to visit earlier this year.
Usually watch the GPs on Saturday evenings, would like to go to Cardiff for the British but it clashes with an event I'm involved in.

Ah yes that smell, fantastic,caught a whiff of it at Goodwood recently and realised id missed it. . We probably stood next to each other at some stage then! I used to go to Cradley with my parents when I was a lad, in the late '70s/early '80s.as with most of the kids I stood outside the first bend, getting covered in shale every lap...
Used to love it. The sound and the smell were unforgettable.
