Quick question guys, Birmingham to Clapham Common Saturday morning

M1 or M40?

Living in Aberdeen dont drive down south more than once a year, any suggestions, I see the M1 does go further into London than the M40, but ??

Tks

Generally, the M40 runs more smoothly, especially with the roadworks betwixt Jn 11 and the M25 on the M1.

The M30 may stop further out but it carries on as the A40, follow this past Hanger Lane and take the A3220 south from the A40 to get over the river.

I'd go M40 and around the M25 for a bit rather than A40

Thanks guys. Much appreciated, just need to turn my Tomtom on for the final leg to the common, lovely place there, the Windmill if anyone has stayed there before.

I'd agree with Tonker - M40, M25 anticlockwise and the A3 - just watch the cameras........

TomTom should warn you of these if you have the facility enabled. Mie goes off like a cuckoo clock 400 yards before a camera AND advises the limit - both very handy if travelling in unfamiliar territory!

Definitely M40 if you're coming from Brumland.

M40/M25/A3 is my vote as well.

End of the M1 to Clapham is around 40 mins on a good day. Saturday morning traffic is usually a disaster zone in pretty much all of London though and the M1 roadworks are still dragging on ...

Hope its sunny then, last visit was Easter, scattering of SNOW on the common, stayed previously, and as you say, a great place to be sitting outside in the sun, with a cold beer or three.

The M1 is fking awful, whereas the M40 is one of the best motorways about - everyone seems to get a good move on, pretty empty most of the time and good lane discipline...what's not to like?

Agree. When I 1st started using the M40 to visit the inlaws I couldn't believe how good it was and everyone travels at 90+.

I used the M40 to come back from Brum yesterday, to avoid the M1 and roadworks at Luton. Did the whole trip door to door in three hours.

Amazing. Didn't drop below *cough* all the way.
