They usually quote 1% of car value for one days insurance........... look on internet, quite a few companys do it.

Ive tried to set up trac ins for Trax and Castle Combe action days and didnt have any luck. I had some really daft quotes though one company asked for £450. The only decent advice was find a company that will cover you anually that includes track cover, of course it will cost you extra but if your on track throughout the year it'll be worth it.

I'm with Greenlight (highways insurance), when ringing to change my premium recently (I had to come off limited milage - can't stop driving the damn thing ) I enquired about trackday cover. They said £50 per day, and I have to give them at least a couple of days notice before taking out the cover.

I thought that was pretty good.

~1% would be more like it! Last time I did a track day it cost £100 for the insurance via competition car insurance on a car value of £13k

I've always gone with Competition Car Insurance and have never had (or heard) any problems with them. They are worth checking out for normal insurance if you do track a car as you get 4 free track days with any extras just charged an admin fee.

Some things to bear in mind.
- A good rule of thumb for one off track cover is £10 for every £1k of cover (so 30k is 300 quid).
- The excess is 10% of the agreed value. So if you are paying 300 quid for a 30k car then your on track excess is 3k
- Windscreens are not included (anyway have to be a hell of a windscreen for a 10% excess).
- there is no 3rd party liability. So if you are hit and it wasn't your fault then tough - you claim on your insurance and pay the excess.
- Only certain approved track day organisers are allowed. Make sure you clear it with CCI first (all the main ones are fine and most clubs are allowed to)
- If you do have an off make sure you get the track day organiser to fill in their bit on the form - you get nothing otherwise.
- Double check the personal injury section - if you are carrying a passenger and have an incident they are allowed to put in a claim against you (regardless of what if anything you get them to sign as a waiver). If your insurance doesn't cover this then you do risk being sued - guess it depends how well you know them!
- Mechanical failure can be disputed - so if you have a tyre blow out and crash into a barrier the insurance company may claim that poor maintenance of the car caused the crash and not pay out the full amount. so make sure the car is in tip top condition.
- if you do have a camera in the car, then get it out straight away and do not post the footage on you-tube. Claims have been declined citing the video falling under the exclusion of "timed events" (as you can time laps using the video).

Sorry for the doom n gloom but I'd rather people were prepared before venturing out on track thinking "it's ok - I'm insured". You may be insured but its a lot more restrictive than normal road insurance.
