I'm looking for a reasonable pair of prescription goggles / mask at about the £20 to £30 mark for a holiday later in the year. I saw some by Zoggs in TK Maxx on the weekend for only £3.99, but they only had a -5.5 dioptre. I am just over -8, and most makes I've found only go to an 8 maximum, but that's not too much trouble for a bit of swimming about in the sea. Basically I want to be able to look down at the fish and dive down a metre or two.

Does anyone use prescription goggles, or can tell me what brands to avoid and any reputable websites to buy from?

Is there any benefit to getting a diving mask as opposed to goggles. Goggles would seem to be more flexible for sea and pool.

Zoggs appears to be good but it looks like their range only goes to a -6.

Cheers me dears.

-8.25 and -8.5 no less!

On holiday last time I was most pissed off when the OH kept swimming back to me, saying there's a huge shoal of fish down there. I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING! smile

I may just take two milk bottles.

I don't like the idea of contact lenses. I look much more distinguished (ahem) with my glasses on.

I wish I could do the learned man sitting in a pub corner bit, reading Dostoevsky, when a young female student in a duffle coat (but you know she's really hot underneath) would keep looking over ... and, after a fashion, I would place the book down onto the solid wood table, take off my glasses in a considered manner, arrange my tie a little and raise my gaze slowly to look into her eyes with a knowing smile that meant "I'm an erudite, cultured guy - an author, architect, composer and a circus strongman in my spare time and I'll be banging you tonight".

Unfortunately, with my prescription, I'd be giving the look to Chris fking Tarrant on the quiz machine.

I'm -6.25 and -9.00 and couldn't find anything to fit my prescription. I ended up with some as strong as I could get (-8 from memory) as it was only for in the pool. I'd go down the contact lense route if I were you as a mask (again from memory) was also limited at higher prescriptions. I also have an astigmatism and you won't get googles/a mask to fix that although contacts will.

Everything is magnified 25 per cent underwater. So your mask prescription may be different to your spectacles.

Snorkelling and diving would seem two good ones. SWMBO got a prescription mask after I pointed out an octopus in a crack while snorkelling and she got her nose about 6 inches away before working out what it washehe

They do goggles with different prescriptions each side on the websites I've found.

E.g.

http://www.prescription-swimming-goggles.co.uk/aca...

Those go up to a -10.

Have you bought stuff from here? Looking for a recommendation from the PH Gentleman's Club as there are lots of websites out there.

Ah. The joy of knowing that you've bought something rubbish. Glad I've changed opticians recently...

Specsavers (et al) - I'd rather not go down the route of spending a couple hundred on bespoke lenses, seeing as I'm just going to be fannying about in the Med or somewhere for a week.

They only have one model of prescription goggles. I will away and look up reviews of the Kiefer.

Fit girls in swimwear always welcome, especially if provided in the innocence of a product catalogue. biggrin
