(Question on behalf of a friend...)

What type of paint would one need to use on an exterior shed that's made of plastic?

thought pepole bought plastic so they didnt have to have the hassle of painting them .

only thing i can think would be to sand it and paint it like you would car bumpers

True, it doesn't need painting, but currently sticks out like a sore thumb so he wants to paint it brown/dark green.

Is sanding necessary to provide a key?

Throw a camouflage -net over it. Failing that; there is a paint specifically made for plastics. There might be an issue with the choosing of colours though. Best go to a specialist paint supplier and ask them.

There is a reason that most sheds are made of wood....

Er, guessing it's PVC? If so it will be waxy, so the paint you use will need to cope with that, plus the solvent in the paint needs not to disolve the plastic...

Try it in a small area first. Seriously!

You can buy a primer for UPVC windows (merchants / DIY sheds if you have too), which will proably work (again, check first!), then overpaint with the paint of you choice.

But seriously, it has potential to make it look nasty. I'd stick a trellis or a row of small conifers round it TBH.
