Z4 3.0i, what next??

Hi there, looking for a bit of advice / friendly debate on what car to get next. I'm currently running a 3.0i Z4 (pre facelift roadster). I've made a few little changes to the car since I got it a year ago; changed to non-runflats and removed the foam filters from the sound generator (sounds amazing from inside). Unfortunately as good as the car is I'm finding it a bit boring. This is my daily driver and I'm looking to move on and find something else.

On a perfectly smooth road the Z4's handling is very good but throw in some bumpy rural roads and it's a nightmare, bumping and shaking all over the place.

Prior to the Z4 I was running a Focus ST which although didn't have the image of the BMW, it certainly was a better steer.

I have a budget of around 15-20k, let the suggestions commence........

I was going to leap to the defence of the Z4 but looking at some of the stuff you've owned I can see why you find it boring and can't really understand why you bought it, especially if you also have a Z4M Roadster.

How about an M3?

If you've also got a Z4M why don't you just have that instead??

Or, bin the 3.0i and get an E34 M5 for £5k and pocket the change.

Sorry for misleading you, all of the exotica is my Dad's!!! I would likle to think I know a little about the ownership experience of said cars though...

Depends what kind of car you're after.

£20k will get you a Porsche 996 or Boxster, an M3, M5, Clio V6, Skyline, Impreza, Bentley Turbo R...

My vote would go for a Porker too, but in 993 guise.

Elise 111R is just ducking under 20k now. Could probably get an Exige S2 (make sure it has air-con) but I don't think you'll get an s (supercharged) for 20K. All much more fun and turn heads more but less practical and comfortable.

I like the idea of a 996, for that kind of money am I bound to a Carrera 2?

You might get a Carrera 4 for that sort of cash, but personally I'd go for a 2. You also can see convertibles dipping under the £20k barrier.
