Hello fellas and ladies!

How ya's all doin?!

Just thought I'd introduce myself and my wee MX5 as we've just signed up in the hope that I can get all the advice I need to progress my modification of my MX5!

Im Nicole, 21 from Co.Down, in sunny Northern Ireland and I've owned my first 5, Mr Max, since February. Absolutely lovin' MX5 ownership!

At the minute I have...

New Rota GT3 alloys in 16", just gone on last week love them!
Lowered
Style bars
White dial kit
Chrome bits n bobs in the interior
Sound System and dynamat for those annoyin bootlid rattles!

and I'll be lookin for inspiration for my next addition!

So, here he is..... (along with a friends FORD 8) haha!)








Whats next?!!

thanks, oh and you just reminded me lol, have a K&N induction kit also! so like having that switch on/off noise instead of a constant noise!

Just figured ya out there.... took me a min!

thanks btw, pic was taken on a sunny day after the floods we had last week, saw the remainder of a rather large puddle and couldnt resist some reflections!!

They are pretty cool wheels. There's been some interesting discussions on similiar wheels on here (somewhere).

I went for wee mr max cus i totally fell in love with it! It had to be this one, no other would do! I had originally wanted a smart roadster :O
I do remember discussing it on an NI car website and had said i didnt like mx5;s when someone suggested one and i ended up buyin one! Love it tho...best car i've had yet!

No, but seriously, that looks very nice, and in the right colour too

My next mods on that car would be a chrome mesh grille, clear/chrome side indicators and clear/chrome side-marker reflectors

Greetings Nicole from yet another paddy I'm living in the Midlands down south. Like the MX5, I'm actually considering chopping in the Elise at some stage (due to house purchase) and getting one of these to keep rear drive fun available on a budget. As others have said you'll fit in well here with that car it's very well respected in these parts.

As for modifications, do you need more power or is it purely cosmetic suggestions you are after, if its the latter I'd leave it as it is, because it looks fantastic. If its more power you want I'd start looking into turbo/supercharging, reasonably cheap to do and some healthy power and performance gains while still leaving the car driveable.

Anyway welcome to pistonheads, it will slowly take over your life

Oh and if you're interested check out www.octane.ie, which is Irelands equivalent to PH there are some meets and trips away, not as active as here but good all the same. (and no I dont work for them)

Supercharging and turbos then...whats the difference, will i gain much and how does it affect fuel consumption? Cost also?

From the little I know about it turbocharging will give you a higher peak power out put so lets say it might give you 195 bhp at 6000 rpm, but if the turbo isn't spinning (ie if you're at low revs) you won't get any addional power, this makes it suited to track driving, because in the real world you are rarely screaming along at 6000rpm.

Supercharging as far as I know will give you a good spread of power across the rev range but peak power is less, so a supercharged MX5 might make 180 bhp but have that power available more of the time. This to me is the better option as it means when driving on the road you have more power available more of the time, which is good for overtaking or acceleration out of slow corners etc...

As for fuel consumption I'm not too sure - a bigger concern might be insurance etc which would be worth looking into in order before you go down this road.

I started the thread below a while back, it might give you some ideas on costs etc. Also the search function on this site is quite good and there has been a lot of discussion on this topic. So get searching and anything you can't find and answer to just ask. You won't find a better site for genuine knowledge than this one, and a good few people here have already supercharged/turbo'd their MX5's so will be able to give you first hand advice.

it really depends on what's out there for each model as what fits one doesn't fit the other...
s/c and t/c are the same thing - little pumps to put more air into your engine so that you can put more fuel in, get a bigger bang and more power - s/c the pump is driven straight off the engine so you get parasitic loss, t/c the pump is driven by the exhaust gas so you tend to get a little more lag and less low speed performance but less loss too probably - i can get 38mpg from my 1.8 turbo

costs of install probably similar
